In this society to be born naturally is frowned upon. The society of Gattata has stripped everything thing make us individual so that we are what they like to think is perfect, Everyone in this society seems to lack the one thing that makes us human, a personality they are almost machine like in the way they do things they are all very one dimensional people. (There is no gene for fate clip). The DNA testing machine is a symbol that determines whether the person is human or just marvel of modern technology yet the genetically perfect people are deemed valid by this machine, this symbolises the machine that is now society. This is the same principle as an engine where if there is non-working part or a part not working as good as the rest “the invalids” it is swapped out for a valid part to keep the machine running smoothly. This relates to the book in the way that Nurse Ratched tries to treat the patients like pieces of machinery stripping them of their personalities by using strict routines and harsh punishments and through this she forces the patients to conform and turn into the bland and 1 dimensional beings like nurse
