Gatherer

Although the hunter is normally regarded to be the more dominant of the two, based on my experiences and values, I believe I am more of a gatherer. I consider a hunter to be inherently comfortable with putting their own life at risk to accomplish a task or achieve a goal. A gatherer has the same goal and achievement mindset of a hunter, but while also considering their safety, and those around them. Earlier in my life, I had some of the characteristics of a hunter. I was careless and set on my goals, regardless of the consequences. However, after my Father passed away four years ago to an Aortic dissection, my approach changed. I realized that there will always be people that depend on me, like I depended on my Father being there. My family, friends, and anyone I interact with are there for me, and I need to do whatever I can to be there for them. Following this experience, I developed a gatherer personality. Both have the goal of survival, but their approaches are drastically different. The hunter is focused solely on the goal, and achieving it through whatever means possible, while the gatherer ensures that they achieve their own goals while taking regard for those around them. This aspect of the gatherer is what I relate to the most. Since my mentality changed, I have not stopped setting goals, and working tirelessly to achieve them. I have however, considered how my actions may affect other people. For example, as a Career Fair Coordinator, one of my tasks is to assign volunteers to different stations of the Career Fair. Rather than assigning people to stations based purely on need, I need to make sure that they are comfortable and willing to handle their respective responsibilities, along with being able to excel at their
