Gateway Reflective Study

Gateway is designed to create foundations for becoming a successful and effective college student. The five reflective writings encourage the examination of thoughts, feelings, and/or behaviors that affect my performance and acceptance within the campus community. Regular writings provide an outlet for personal expression. The Education and Career Planning Projects are intended to help me make informed career decisions. The projects focus on self-assessment, career exploration, and goal setting. Self-assessment concentrates on self-knowledge and self-awareness. I identified my top career interest areas based on my interests, values, and self-image. Career exploration moved me from identifying possible careers to doing research that will help me adjust my career options and make a career decision. After exploring my career options, I moved onto planning and goal setting. I researched the skills needed in my career of choice and made plans to strengthen these skills. Gateway is different from other courses because the format is discussion rather than lecture. The content is focused on the process of learning and becoming a successful student instead of on a specific academic subject. Gateway has helped me as a student by developing skills that will help guarantee my academic success. These skills include practicing time management, note-taking, and test-taking strategies. This course also helps me learn about myself as a student.
