Gastric Emptying Study
By: Paige Pollreisz 5 The gastric emptying study is conducted by a nuclear physician. The study evaluates people who have slow or rapid stomach emptying. Physicians use chemicals with radioactivity to measure how fast or slow food leaves the stomach and enters the intestine. To prepare for the exam you must eat a small meal that has a tiny amount of radioactive material in it. You will also receive an injection with a radioactive tracer in it. A radioactive tracer has a radioactive isotope in it. It can be tracked through your body to study disease and biochemical processes. During the exam a scanner is placed over your abdomen for several hours taking continuous pictures and tracking the radioactive chemicals. The scanner

When this procedure is complete you realize that the total being removed is more than 85% of the stomach and how they do it is by stapling and dividing it vertically. The stomach stays connected to the intestines while in a narrow tube or sleeve. As this is all happening the procedure that was made permanently reduces the size of the stomach causing you to lose weight .In contrast to gastric banding, gastric bypass is a permanent reduction in the size of the stomach. Finally my favorite and most common type of weight loss surgery is Gastric bypass.…

Things patients should be concerned about Brain Scan is CT scans, MRI, and carotid artery duplex scans have replaced brain nuclear scans for the diagnosis of neurological disorders. This test should not be performed in pregnant or breastfeeding women because of possible risks to the fetus or infant. Before the Brain Scan happens, you need to inform your doctor if you have an allergy to iodine or shellfish. An intravenous (IV) needle or catheter is inserted into a vein in your arm immediately before the test begins. Certain medications, called blocking agents, may be administered orally or by injection before the test to prevent excessive uptake of the radioisotope by specific tissues.…

It has been established for more than 40 years that Cl- is not passively distributed in gastrointestinal smooth muscle (Aickin et al 1983, Barajas Lopez et al 1989, Casteels 1971, El-Sharkawy and Daniel 1975 p1278,) and that there is a complex relationship between the distribution and transport of Cl- and the distribution and transport of other ions including Na+, K+ and Ca2+, as well as responses to changes in pH and osmolarity. The full complement of Cl- ion transporters and Cl- selective channels has not been determined for the cell types in gastrointestinal muscularis externa of any species but recently interest in understanding how Cl- homeostasis contributes to gastrointestinal smooth muscle function has revived due to the recognition that two key mechanisms for Cl- movement, the Ca2+ activated Cl- channel, Ano1 and the Na+,K+, two…

Discussion: Although water is an integral part of the human diet, the Master Cleanse Diet is an unhealthy alternative. Having a diet consisting of cayenne peppers, lemons and maple syrup as the main fuel source for the body is absurd and in addition, it is suggested that individuals should take a form of laxative at night, and after a while, there is nothing else to get rid off, it will just lead to dehydration. The body is supposed to run on primarily carbohydrates and taking that away alongside proteins and fats would ultimately push the body to use other fuel sources, such as breaking down protein if the diet goes long enough, because this type of diet is not sustainable by the human body. Running on sugars and a small number of micronutrients…

Helping Your Body There is no middle ground in the “getting in shape” of the world today thanks to the way that society portrays what is the “perfect” body image, but everybody is different. What looks good to one person may not be as appealing to the person across the room. There is no said physique for each person, so why does society in every magazine have the guys portrayed to be well built with a deep, dark tan and the women skinny as a toothpick? With the right diet and the right amount of exercise a person can feel completely comfortable with the way they look and control how they take care of their body without having to feel insecure for not looking like these billboard images of what everyone is, “supposed” to look like.…
