And here we are again, another book. I can honestly say that I don’t feel any different. I think I’ve reached a level of consciousness where I’m not defined by accomplishments. I think writing a book is a big accomplishment, but I’m more excited for the impact that the book will have rather than the fact that it is out. Two days ago I had a moment where I was in my room balling my eyes out in gratitude. Do you ever have those moments where you can go down your list of “things” and everything is good? That morning I was proud of myself that I was in good health, my bills were paid, my loved ones were good and I had another book. That was a good morning.

“ If you want to hide something from a Black man put it in a book!” I know that many people believe the stereotype that black men, particularly young black men, don’t read. I hate this stereotype because it is unfortunate and for me not true. I grew up watching my father read the bible and my parents enforced that my siblings and I read. I understand the magic that books can have on a person’s life because of this upbringing. Unfortunately, I know that the way I was raised to read books is not common. It is a fact that most black men don’t read. It’s also true that most Americans don’t read regularly. I think that this is true because there aren’t a lot of role models outside of academic spaces that are advocates for reading. I want to always be known for not only reading but writing. I want people who know me to know that I read and so should they. I’m hoping with my social media accounts and by me writing two books that my supporters will understand the importance of reading.
I Want to Talk to Us
There’s a lot of good writing out in the world. I also believe that there isn’t a lot of positive writing by black authors for young readers. I want to refute this perception by creating affordable, positive and easy to read writing that will inspire people. I’m bored with self-help guru’s and life coaches being over 40 and white. I want to create work in the world for young people that will speak directly to them and let them know that they too, can be great no matter what age or background.
