“People often say that this or that person has not yet found himself. But the self is not something one finds, it is something one creates.” -Thomas Szasz. In the story “Seventh Grade” written by Gary Soto, a boy named Victor who is in the Seventh grade, and likes a girl in his school named Teresa. This story fits into the theme of “Self Discovery” when Teresa asks him if he could help her with French. This is proven on page 127 and shows that Teresa likes the Victor who actually knows French, not the real him. Victor is acting like he knew French just to impress Teresa. There is also evidence on page 127 when it says “ After biology class, he raced to the public library and checked out three French textbooks. He was going to like seventh grade.”
