Garth Brooks: A Brief Biography

Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on February 7, 1962, was Troyal Garth Brooks who is now known nationally as a country music singer. He was the youngest child of his father and mother, Troyal Raymond Brooks, Jr., who was a draft man for an oil company; Colleen McElroy Carroll a 1950's era country singer of Irish. Both his mother and father had been married before so that gave Garth four half-siblings. They then had Kelly and Garth together. Where they lived in Yukon, Oklahoma the family would host talent nights weekly. Garth and his siblings were required to be in them. Whether it was singing or doing a skit. That's why Garth learned to play both the guitar and the banjo. He liked to sing in family events, but his main focus was athletics. Throughout high school he played baseball, football, and also ran track and field. While doing track he received a scholarship to Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. His older siblings exposed him to a wide range of music. Garth listened to some country music primarily George Jones. Although he was founder of rock music than any other genre. James Taylor, Dan Fogelberg, and Townes Van Zandt were major influences. Meanwhile, he listened to George Straight's song "Unwound", he decided to start playing country music. In 1985, Rod Phelps came from Dallas to listen to Brooks, because he liked what he heard and offered Brook's to produce his first demo. He went to Nashville and within 24 hours he was back in Oklahoma. Later on, after Phelps continued on asking him to come back to Nashville, he finally did. Two years later, Brooks, along with his wife Sandy Mahi moved to Nashville. There he began making contacts in the music
