My reactions in this experience was a combination of anxiousness as well as frustration. I was feeling anxious because I did not know what I would have done in this situation if I was a qualified social worker and this enabled me to consciously reflect on how inexperienced I was. I was also anxious as I was concerned of the two children and according to Canali, Vecchiato & Whittaker (2008), children are one of the most vulnerable age groups, and to draw from my own personal values as I have two young sisters, to leave them at home without a plan or not knowing if there was food in the house was something I had difficulty comprehending.

According to the Victorian Department of Human Services (2016), although there is not a specific age, there are provisions in the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005 about parental responsibility to a child or children, in which reasonable provision of food and clothes and safety have to be provided. This mattered to me because I have always believed that as adults, whether you are a parent, a health professional, or anyone in the community, you have the responsibility of the safety of children. I strongly value family as I grew up in close proximity with my siblings, which is why I believe I personalised this case from other cases throughout my placement.
