Garden Sweet Farm is located about two miles North of Old Town Fort Collins, Colorado. To get there from where I live, I drove North on Shield street. To the left and near the Larimer County Sheriff Fire Rescue Cache had a little pound with a fanatic view for me to look at when I drove there every morning. At the first sight of sunlight, the pound had some fog just a little bit above the water with the perfect views of the mountains in its background. Amy Kafka is the owner of the Garden Sweet farm and she has been a farmer for about fifteen years now. Amy has a degree in Horticulture from Colorado State University. Her trusty right hand man is Ryan Wilson and they work together to make Garden Sweet they way it is today. Amy used to rent a farming property, however, about three years ago she decided to buy 9.5 acre of land and start her permanent home on Willox street. There is still quite a bit of land that Amy has utilized into growing food. Amy explained to us that her farm follows an annual schedule. From the months of November through January, Amy and Ryan analyzed their crop yield and profit that they made for previous year. Amy and Ryan take detailed notes when they order and plant crops so that during this time, they can decide what crop grew well and what crops does not produce enough profit. From that information Amy and Ryan can decide what crop they can grow for next spring. Some of the crop that they are growing include asparagus, basil, beans, blackberries,…
