The Garden of the Finzi-Contains is an Italian film portraying the effects on Italian Jews in Ferrara Italy, with the rise of Mussolini in World War II. The film narratives one of the wealthiest Jewish family Finzi-Contain family tries to wall itself off from the Holocaust. The children of the Finzi-Contains family, Micol and Alberto, invite their circle of friends for continuous rounds of tennis at their garden, since there are banned from the tennis club because their Jewish. Apart of their circle of friends is Giorgio, a middle class Jew whom dreams of a future with Micol. Keeping herself isolated in her garden is her idealism of keeping away from what’s to come. The Garden where the family of the Finzi-Contains resides in has reference to the Garden of Eden. The garden in the film is depicted as an earthly paradise, which is a safe enclosure for the family. Gardens are a simulation of peace between the inclusion and outside world. In Bibical reference, the Garden of Eden was created by God that, possessed divine properties. The family ironically isolated themselves from the world but opens its doors to the outside world. By isolation, the Finiz-Contains family is preventing themselves from pervasive racism that is widespread throughout Ferrara. Giorgio is aware of what’s happening and cannot draw Micol away from the garden. Giorgio walks the arcade in which him and his friend were, and the employee warns me that they are hunting down Jews and to hide. He later witnesses when his friend is removed from the movie theater. Giorgio consciousness of what will happen if he stays in Ferrara, leads to him and his family getting away which is stated by the father who stays
