For the Garbology report, I have chosen to excavate my friends midden located in his apartment. He shares this apartment with three other people and I am examining their kitchen trash. When excavating I stared out with one big trash bag and then continued down the bag and noticed everything was in layers. The top was not as compiled as the bottom, however once I got to the middle and bottom section of the trash I noticed that things were compressed together and more items were stuck together making it a lot more difficult to work with. The first thing I noticed was, there were a lot of paper plates as well as paper napkins through the top of the trash. I came to the conclusion that category number two had the most items thrown away and all the items in category two would make it more than 100 years without decomposing. Plastic items were mainly in the garbage midden, these days almost all food packaging consists of some type of plastic molding. Fifty percent of the garbage was in category number two. Thirty percent of the garbage included paper products that will be decomposed by the time one hundred years passes. After studying and analyzing garbage, I started to assume what each person was eating that week to lead me to more specific detailed information about each individual who lives in the apartment. Studying closer into the project, I came to the conclusion based on the small things I have pulled from the garbage bag. There are three people living in the apartment and go to school at the University of Arizona who lives in an apartment building located in Tucson Arizona. One of their names is Tyler Smith, Paper was located near the bottom of the trash, including important information about Tyler, it was covered with a rotten banana. The substances they consumed the most were either fast food or frozen food goods, the packaging I found the most was named brands of fast food and other food chains located around U of A. Someone in the apartment works out and has a healthier diet than others because of the blender bottle, different fruits, vegetables, and protein bar wrappers that the individual had discarded. They either got their food from Safeway or local fast food restaurants due to the Safeway bags and recipes I found. I encountered many challenges on figuring out what they did for a living, socioeconomic status, male or female, and religion. Bases off of the trash left behind those questions were unable to answer due to the amount if
