Once the war after the Qin had finished, “one rebel general gained control of the Wei basin and went on to unify China”(Crag 206). China had collapsed and finally found a way to rebuild. The only possible way for this to happen was through the unification of China. The unification that Gaozu was able to make possible was part of the first stage of the dynastic cycle. Gaozu arose and had the power to allow China to develop and advance in all aspects of life. He gave the people of China order and allowed for China to regain its strength. With this came many other great reforms. Some of the examples of the many reforms put in place was ”To increase revenues,he(Han Wudi) levied-taxes on merchants, debased the currency, and sold some offices”.(pg206) As with any civilization when the taxes are increased many people end up being upset and often flee, leaving many important jobs uncared for. That is why it was vital for Wudi to gain money in order to decrease taxes. IF money is coming into a civilization steadily then the people are happy. This act of improving the economy furthered the dynastic cycle of the Former Han dynasty, and allowed for many other movements to be set in place. With the money gained ”his(Wudi) armies swept south into what is today northern Vietnam and northeast across Manchuria to establish a military outpost in northern Korea that would last until 313 C.E.”(Craig 206).Due to the economy of the Former Han improving it allowed for the military to be further funded. Once the military was funded it was easy for wudi to send his armies to capture new land and expand their territory. With the expansion of territory, better economy , and unification of the state the first major step of the Dynastic cycle was completed. The new territory that the han had gained to be used
