Tara Donavan is a New York based artist, best known for her unique way of using ordinary and plain items as the underlying concept for her sculptures. She was born in 1969, in Flushing, Queens. Donavan grew up in Blauvelt, a small town in New York, about 30 miles outside of New York City. She attended the School of Visual Arts, New York, in 1987-88, but it wasn 't until 1991 when she received her BFA from the Corcoran College of Art and Design, Washington, DC. Eight years later, Donavan went back and earned her Masters of fine arts from Virginia Commonwealth University.…
The artwork I chose to imagine is Van Gogh’s famous oil painting called Starry Night. It was painted in June of 1889 and has grown to be known as one of his most famous paintings. Van Gogh was a post-impressionist and painted Starry Night from memory in his apartment. The view is of a village from a window in an asylum. I chose this painting because it has always been hanging in my Aunt’s living room.…
In chapter XXIII, Castillo gives us a little more background about Doña Marina. If we recall from class Malintzin, as we refer to her, came from a nobility/ elite family. However, Castillo provides more specific information about Doña Marina’s parents. Diaz mentioned (1517) that her father and mother were Chiefs and Caciques of a town called Paynala located in Coatzacoalcos. In addition, Castillo gives a paragraph whose main function is to provide information which only a witness may possess and demonstrate the truthfulness of the narrative.…
Many people express themselves using art. Everyone has a different story behind their artwork and construct it differently. Nonetheless, knowledge and empathy are a key part in the process of creating wonderful art. To create great art, an artist needs knowledge because the more background knowledge the artist has, the more their mind is widened to a greater imagination and it’s easier to put out what they’re thinking.…
Blow out II Going to the art gallery Blowout was my first time going to an art gallery in a very long time. I have never really been around art. The only art I have been exposed to has been through art class in middle school and high school. I found art class fun but art has never really stuck with me, I was never really good at it and that frustrated me. When I was assigned to go to the art gallery I was excited to see the art and be and try to become more familiar with art, with that excitement also came nerves.…
The anticipation rises as the best week of my summer is around the corner. As we pack up the car the excitement is contagious. Going back to a place I consider home, the memories of laughs and adventures flood in from past years. From the lake to the Olympic Center, the times spent in Lake Placid have opened up a part of myself that otherwise I would not have found.…
My art teacher Mrs. Jan Federick really pushed me to finish a painting I was working on in high school that I brushed off to the side to deal with other priorities. A total of two years working on one painting titled “Over the Love”, and I finished it just four days before the state fair art exhibition where I received third place in the portraits category, which I gladly took seeing the other two painting which one first and second place. My idea for the painting came from two works, The Great Gatsby (which we read for 12th Grade literate) and the song “Over the Love” by Florence+The Machine from The Great Gatsby (2013) Motion Picture soundtrack. The woman, drunk, crying, and singing in despair about her torn yellow dress on the piano after…
When we look at the world today, not all of us enjoy art, not many of us practice it, But no one is surprised when someone comes along from our friends or family who is deemed talented at art. This mindset, this overall acceptance than anyone can go out and learn how to do what they love. It’s a modern phenomena, full of aspiring graphic artists and cartoonists, painters and animators. We see more and more art classes each year, the world seems to want to learn how to do art, because having artistry as a hobby has become commonplace in these times. We owe a great part of this to one man, to one show, and to a thousand words of encouragement Bob Ross’s; The Joy of Painting has brought us.…
Morning Josh and Fanyons! Marilyn asked me to hold the fort while she is on vacation this week and I'm happy to help as she is making her way to unite with old friends, make new ones and just have fun this week! So here goes. . . Today is Columbus Day and that seems the perfect holiday to celebrate as our fellow adventuring Fanyons are packing for and traveling to GRL in Atlanta. They are trekking across the United States, from Canada, across the Pacific and the Atlantic to meet up with Facebook and GR friends who have become the real deal.…
Art is a passion of mine. I love to create and bring ideas to life. Since I was a little girl, I have always wanted to do something amazing with my life, and I knew it would be something artistic. With the Bulk Scholarship, I hope to use the money to make my dreams a reality.…
Sparking Illumination I was never once told how exactly I had to build up my life, what my talents should be, or who I must become. Therefore, I have always been entitled to creating the best version of myself. No matter what I may be doing, at all times, I strive to complete all I endeavor to the absolute best of my ability. I admire my determination and work ethic above all else that I possess, and I believe it will bring me great success in my future.…
Sherrie’s World There’s a place I go to escape; a sanctuary that’s all my own. Just through the grass and into an open field, or among a busy city street overlooking a New York City skyscraper. You can find me in 1889 overlooking the swirling sky and the starry night in southern France. You can find me surrounded by Jesus and his twelve disciples during the moment where Jesus told them Judas will deceive him. You can find me anywhere that has been portrayed on a canvas.…
The first reason I think is because art brings people enjoyment to their life. To be more specific, a flower vase is an art. When people put the flower in it and take it to the home, it brings people a beautiful view and then it brings people enjoyment and happiness. This kind of enjoyment always can make us become more relaxed. Every day we all busy on our work or school, we always feel stressful.…
Artistic expressions, such as film, have the capacity to influence the perception of both our past and present. Mass media has been constantly validating how powerful ideas are. There is just a great amount of authority gained just by having something presented in the channels of media. All that it takes is a powerful production. The art form of illustration and film is effective in three things.…
The bristles of the paintbrush in my hand dances around the canvas as if it had a mind of its own, creating a whole new world with hundreds of different shades and colors. Each stroke tells a story, illustrating each intricate designs being born to life. As the paintbrush moves, I watch the different colors settle in the fibers as the hues fuse together, depicting the evolution of a picture. Painting has played a crucial role in my life ever since I was a young child. My love for painting came from my uncle, who was also a painter, when he gave me a quite large watercolor paint set.…
