Many people who joined a gang joined to be protected from someone. Some might have had a rough home life and needed a shelter or food. But some people joined for the status. They wanted to be cool and look better than everyone. A large amount of people were killed, innocent by standers and gang members. Marcy Kennedy Knight wrote, “Frank Gusenburg lived for three hours. It has become more violent and more people are killed. People are able to hide is easier because of the technology and people are smarter than they were in the 1920’s. The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre affects us today because we are more cautious and have a better idea of what to do if we get into a violent situation. This event was one of the bloodiest days in Chicago’s history. People were shot to the death with no second thought. Gangs are still around and probably will be for a while but with the safety we have today, we don’t have to be as worried. Violence has become more controllable
