Gang Relation Speeches

Today I would like to talk about my point of view on what I think gang relations can really do. I choose this topic to show you all how gangs will affect you and the people around you.
Love for the streets is where they think it’s at but when you stop to think about it, where does the streets really get you. Ya they encourage you but what they are encouraging you to do never gets you where you should be. Statistics show that most gang involvement ends you up in prison or dead. There is a story I would like to talk about; I have a friend he joined a gang I don’t know at what age he got in, a couple days ago I heard that another gang shot at his grandpa, can you believe that an older person got shot at and he isn’t in a gang. But think about

Have you ever really noticed that people in gangs tend to mostly shoot other gangs due to family members dying. Gang related distractions only get you to miss out the joy in life and most people that are involved in gangs drop out of school before they even learned anything; my dad dropped out of school in 9th grade so he really wanted to run around and steal cars and get into trouble with his gang; now he is unemployed and only work on cars. ya cars are cool and all to work on imagine you can get a part time job or start your own company for mechanics and engineering, why suffer your future for gangs. Most people that are apart of gangs at a young age end up either dead before they get to the age 17 or in jail. My step dad went to juvenile detention center at the age 12 and didn’t get out until age 17 for wrong doing with his …show more content…
So ya I can’t say they are good because I know they aren’t and I’ve seen things I didn’t want to see but it’s something that i kinda have to live with. My grandma told me, “Mija, there is another way you can get out of this gang involvement you’re in besides having to get killed-here is a paper, read it.” My grandma doesn’t know that it isn’t that easy to get out of a gang. I can admit, gangs feel like family, like brothers and sisters and you would do anything you can just to stay with your family. Ya they might piss you off sometimes but that’s still your family. Well this gang that I got attached to they are like my family. They have been there for me since day one besides the system of course. But they are not heading me in the right direction. All I can really say is if you know people that want to be in a gang so bad, show them where gangs can get them. People might think gangs are cool but really, you don’t have to be in a gang in order to be cool. You have to be yourself in order to seek the coolness. You would have to commit yourself to the color you would be reppin. If you drop your bandana, let's just say it won’t be too good for you. I would like people that know people who rep, claim, whatever it is that you or someone you know that does that, that gangs can really mess up people’s lives not just yours. That is all I really have to say about

Another thing that alters the view of gangs is that because of these stereotypes and assumptions, the gang begins to develop a stigma around their gang and what they do. This stigma alters our perception of a person, or a gang, before we actually know their full story. For example, people may hear of what this gang does and begins to solely blame it 's members for the life they lead. They may thing that it is all their choice whether to stay in the gang or not, when in reality you are killed if you leave. They may also think that every male in the gang is a rapist, just because they heard that is what they do.…

The media has fed myself and others lies about what gangs truly are and what their purpose is. The overarching theme of gangs is that they are dangerous, full of thugs, blood-thirsty, and out to cause trouble. These fears lead to the constant oppression and lack of understanding of gangs. The truth is that they are more complicated than what society and the media has often made them out to be. There are multiple factors that go into making a gang what it is including why they form, the environment that their society and culture create for them, the structure and laws they enforce within the group, and the harsh reality of how difficult it is to leave.…
