Gang Crimes: A Short Story

Improved Essays
It all began as a normal Tuesday in October. Autumn had brought high winds and heavy downpours, which had resulted in a dreary cold and wet weather. In fact, the weather was so bad that Sophia could not go out for the past three days. In the afternoon, I took a small glance out the window. I noticed it was now nice enough for the walk my dad, and I planned to take Sophia out. Since I still had around 3 hours left before he arrived home, I had decided to watch Criminal Minds and Blue Bloods. Both of those series episode’s had ironically spoken about gang crimes, thefts, abductions, and murders. Once my dad had arrived, I turned off the TV, put on my black sneakers, a blue jacket, and got Sophia into her matching purple collar, harness, and …show more content…
It was the only 7:15 pm, but it felt a lot later. I have always loved these types of late night walk. However, today felt too dark. There had been not a single star and the sky or moon to guide. Even my Dog Sophia, who loves yanking at the leash pulling me ahead, had sure to walk by my side. While having a Golf Course to the right and the road to the left, we had let the street light and cars guide our way. I had thought we were the only ones on the road, and all of a sudden around ten kids who appeared to be around 16-19 came running toward us. My instantly heart sunk to the ground, my legs began to shake, and my eyes widen with fear. They had been wearing a puffy coat that made some of their faces hard to see. I thought to back when I was at home. There was a scene with a group of young adults robbing innocent walkers at night or killing them. I mind in panic mode as I thought: “ I can’t believe I let my guard down. "This is it; I’ve seen this scene millions of times in movies and TV shows. Who know what they plan to do to us?!” My dad and I moved swiftly to the side with Sophia so she wouldn't get hurt. The kids took a quick glance but then paid no mind to us. As the Kids ran by us, my dad had noticed two coat-less teens who appeared to be the oldest of the group. They were wearing a green uniform shirt. “It looks like they are a part of a special after-school program.” My dad had said to me as we had watched them go …show more content…
However my dad could feel my fear and reassured my saying: “As long as you are with me, nothing will happen to you.” His words had blocked off any negative thoughts trying to re-enter my mind. The finally stretch back through the tree had been dark, but we had finally made it to the street that led to our neighborhood. I sighed in relief as I noticed no more strange events had occurred after meeting those joggers again. I looked up at the sky and saw the big bright moon surrounded by billions of bright stars. I wondered to myself out loud “had the sky always been that bright?” Instantly, Sophia started pulling at the leash again rushing me to walk quicker. I looked down at her and smiled. She had been very good and quiet for quite a while, but now she was back to her active and lively self. At that very moment, I laughed at myself as I realized just how foolish my thoughts were. Instead of enjoying the walk like my father and dog had, I stayed nervous the whole time thinking something bad would happen. I thought to myself out loud in a quiet voice: “Maybe that's why Sophia stayed so quiet and close to me.” My loving dog had only quiet because she saw how worried I was. I looked back to the path ahead of me, and then I looked to all the people that were relaxing outside my neighborhood. They were all dressed in similar styles as those. My intuition had told me something would

The track curved and now it was going away from the sun, which as it sank lower, seemed to spread itself in benediction over the vanishing city where she had drawn her breath.
