Gandhi's Assassination

Gandhi begins with Gandhi’s assassination in 1948. Following his assassination, the state funeral he had in his honor is shown. The movie then goes back in time to 1893 when a young Gandhi is riding on a train. Despite being a Western-educated attorney, the conductor kicks him off for being “colored”. He and another fellow Indian then protest by burning travel passports that all Indians had to carry. Gandhi is then arrested. Soon, newly enacted laws were passed the breached Indian civil rights. Gandhi then makes a speech urging that all Indians must resist the new laws in a non-violent manner. This principle is seen when Gandhi rallies many Indian miners, only to be put down by the British. Later, Gandhi travels across India. He witnesses the poverty everywhere firsthand. …show more content…
When more laws are passed that infringe Indian civil rights, Gandhi organizes a day of fast and prayer. This makes many Indians go on strike, and hence nobody is doing their jobs. Gandhi is then arrested again. In protesting British taxes on salt manufacturing, he and others march 240 miles to the ocean Violence soon breaks out. During World War II, Gandhi realizes the full extent of Muslim hate against Hindus. After World War II, England grants India independence. Hindus and Muslims fight everywhere in India. After the fighting, the country becomes divided by religion. Gandhi asks Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the leader of the All-India Muslim League to be the first prime minister of the now independent India. Jinnah wants the country to be divided because he believes civil war will erupt if Muslims and Hindus are together. Jinnah eventually creates a new nation known as Pakistan. The film ends with Gandhi’s assassination, followed by the spreading of his ashes in the Ganges

The British government forbid the people from manufacturing salt and they placed such a high cost on it no one could afford it.
