Julius Caesar Leader Analysis

Leaders can be derived effective or ineffective from their many attributes, but it is important to note that if a leader is good they are not necessarily effective. Many leader’s, like the characters in Julius Caesar, effectiveness can be argued by the many different traits they hold. In Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar one character, Antony, is shown as an effective leader because of how he connects with his followers through emotional appeal. Like Antony, Mohandas Gandhi was one of the many leaders in the world’s history that possessed some of the strongest attributes to be classified as an effective leader. When Britain controlled the textiles that were shipped out and bought in India, Gandhi was quick to change this. He started by making his own clothes and spinning his own thread (Gandhi Leads the Salt March, 1930). This made the people in India follow Gandhi, and congress quickly started to support which made him an even stronger figure. Consequently, this pride that Gandhi injected into the population through the textile production was incredibly effective as the people finally realized how disrespectfully the British were treating their divine rights and the followers began to fight back. Most importantly Gandhi wanted the nation to stand behind their homeland. Similarly, in the play, Brutus persuades the plebeians to trust “‘why Brutus rose against / Caesar, this is my answer: not that I loved Caesar / less, but that I loved Rome more’” (3.2.19-22). Like Gandhi, at that moment Brutus was able to effectively gain the crowd’s interest because he explained how he cared more about the country as a whole.
