A gamma camera is an imaging technique which is used to carry out scans of brain, thyroids, lungs and much more. It is also a detector of gamma photons emitted by a source inside a patient. The most common tracer used is Technetium-99. Tracers such as Technetium-99 are bound to a substance that is used by the body. Technetium-99 emits gamma radiation and it has a half-life of 6 hours, this life is long enough to be recorded. This life is also short enough as it will not cause any damage to the body and decays to a stable isotope. Collimator is one of the component of gamma camera and it is made up of lead. Collimator consists of vertical holes in a lead plate and is located near the body.
