I’m currently an active member, and Media Coordinator Officer, of the Gamma Beta Phi Society, belonging to the local chapter at Arkansas Northeastern College (ANC). The Gamma Beta Phi (GBP) focus objectives are; to recognize and encourage excellence in education, promote the development of leadership ability and character in its members, and to foster disseminate and improve education through appropriate service projects. Some of the ongoing service projects that we do all year long with GBP are; collecting for Box Tops for Education, Heavenly Hats, and Pull top can tabs for St. Jude. Also, GBP volunteer throughout the year to work tables, on and off campus, during events like “Got Stress? Get Success!”, The ANC Watermelon Social, Student Appreciation days, the Blytheville Chili Cook-Off, Red Ribbon Week, and GBP also provides …show more content…
This event was a public forum in which I was on the discussion panel alongside; Blytheville city Mayor James Senders; former AR Representative Tommy Baker; Alice Patterson, author of Bridging the Racial and Political Divide; and W.O.R.K Coordinator, Doug Echols; with discussion moderation conducted by; Dr. Michael R. Twyman, director of the UALR Institute on Race and Ethnicity. Prior to the forum, the award-winning documentary “Come Walk in My Shoes” which follows the perspective of the Honorable John Lewis, was shown throughout campus. The theme of the discussion forum focused on where society has come since the Civil Rights Movement, and other topics facing current issues involving race and discrimination. This was an incredible experience, and one I will appreciate for a long
