Something to keep in mind is the statistics and the marketing strategies. One such strategy is called Marketing Segmentation. Marketing Segmentation is a marketing strategy which involves dividing a broad target market into subsets of consumers, businesses, or countries that have, or are perceived to have, common needs, interests, and priorities and then designing and implementing strategies to target them. So basically, they sell games based on wants more than what someone wants to make more or less. “There isn’t a difference in outcome but it’s just the market making a strategy called Marketing Segmentation.” (Adams, Ernest) The outcome part was talking about if there is an outcome difference between a male and female gamer. The rest is saying how men don’t outperform women in gaming, but the difference is just marketing. Since there isn’t a difference in the outcome, how many gamers are out there? There are 1.2 gamers, but 500 million are playing games like Solitaire or Trivia Crack, so they are being factored out already. Worldwide there are 700 million gamers with 46% female and 54% male. About 47% female and 53% male are the percentages of gamers who are ages 15-24. 41% female and 37% male are the percentage of gamers who are ages 45+ (It seriously skipped that part, or maybe just missed it, but it also misses the other 22% so who knows). “...about 700 million play online games.” (Takahashi, Dean). The list will start off with some sexist games and to start the list is Grand Theft Auto V, God of War, Mortal Kombat, Bioshock Infinite, Bayonetta, and last but definitely not least Deadpool. “The gaming world is a historically and notoriously sexist one, and although this has improved over recent years, it is by no mean a resolved issue.” (Most Shocking) The sexism has gone down but is still very present and my evidence is the games listed. After looking at sexist games, let's look at nonsexist games. Just Dance, (Just for Piper, this is being put on the list) Until Dawn, Tomb Raider, Last of Us, Metroid, Gears of War, Assassins Creed Syndicate, and FIFA 16. “Only 4% of the top 25 games had lead female protagonists.” (Vagianos, Alanna). The quote is saying that people (mostly male consumers) enjoy playing as male protagonists. Now that the readers know the games let us learn a little bit about the game developers. 97% of game developers are male. Older games, movies, and media could affect sexism as well as everything else. “A very high percentage of game developers are male.” (Schulten, Katherine) This system feeds itself because the target audience is males and then the males will want to be game developers and the women won’t because they aren’t really targeted at all. The system only feeds itself because only men want to be game developers. Well, it’s hard to argue with that, but that 3% of women enjoy games a lot. Men really enjoy games
