Since video games are only seen through the gaming screen, it is only fair to explore it. In terms of what exactly is a gaming screen, it is the visual appearance of the video game’s software as it is outputted onto a screen in order for the user to visually see the video game. For television, it is believed that it has harmed its audience ever since its very existence. As for support, according to the Grolier Encyclopedia: "Few inventions have had as much effect on contemporary American society as television. Before 1947 the number of U.S. homes with television sets could be measured in the thousands. By the late 1990s, 98 percent of U.S. homes had at least one television set, and those sets were on for an average of more than seven hours a day. The typical American spends (depending on the survey and the time of year) from two-and-a-half to almost five hours a day watching television. It is significant not only that this time is being spent with television but that it is not being spent engaging in other activities, such as reading or going out or socializing." (Stephen, Mitchell). To explain this, watching television harms the audience’s time due to spending a long period of time on the television. Being that the television is the same as the gaming screen, it is idolizing the audience’s physical movement instead of the audience performing other activities that involves some actual movements such as playing
