A lot of those who were interviewed identify as gaymers, a term that refers to people who identify as gay and love videogames. Among one of the things a lot of the people mentioned when discussing their affection for games was the sense of sanctuary they felt when playing. In a videogame they feel free to express themselves in whatever way they want, even if they are not ready to do that in real life. They face a few challenges when trying to do that though. One of the difficulties that comes with freely expressing themselves in videogames is the hate they can get from other gamers who disagree with their way of life. As is described in the documentary, games are typically centered around heterosexual males and their goals and objectives. Very rarely do games have a main character who is queer. The only real Triple-A game that has had some kind of diversity in it was Mass Effect, where Commander Shepard was able to engage in a homosexual relationship. Besides that though, there is no real representation of the LGBTQ community in Triple-A games. Interviewee Joey Stern argues that there does not always need to be a gay main character, just some gay character so he can feel that gaming companies know people like him exist.
