The 4-year old players struggled to hit the ball off the tee. This tasks took them several tries, while the 5-year old players were much more successful on the first attempt. Once the ball was hit the fun began! Even though the players practiced learning the mechanisms of t-ball through-out the week leading up to their game, there was a rather interesting common maneuver that the opposing team demonstrated. Once the ball was hit off of the tee, each player in the field ran towards the ball. All players tried to recover the ball for themselves. Additionally, one 4-year old batter made contact with the ball and his immediate notion was to run after it, which he did. The conception to run to the base rather the ball just was not there! Eventually, the coach redirected the boy where he needed to go and off he went! His opponents were still very much engrossed in a game of tug-a-war that no one noticed he was stealing bases and headed home. Eventually, each child heard their mom’s voices, yelling STOP, and quickly gave up. The majority of the rookies who were unsuccessful in retrieving the baseball began to cry.
