Every Cubs fan, player, and staff member had some inkling of fear from heartbreak, whether he or she would admit it or not. However, Manager Joe Maddon openly spoke about his nerves before the game “Absolutely. You should be nervous. We have to win tonight, so go ahead and be nervous.” Frankly, the Cubs have been playing poorly this series in comparison to how well they played during the Regular Season. Fielding errors, shaky pitching and bad at-bats have hindered the Cubs and put them in the deficit they are now in. Game 5 had a slightly different flavor with very strong performances from starting pitcher Jon Lester, relief pitcher Carl Edwards Jr., and closer Aroldis Chapman the Cubs. Chapman was particularly crucial to the Cubs victory, notching eight outs after coming in the seventh with a man on second. Credit must be given to the pitching staff as they were able to hold a good hitting lineup to six hits and only relinquishing two runs. It was critical to the Cubs’ survival that the pitching staff performed well as the only run support they saw came in an exciting three-run fourth which included a solo homerun by Kris Bryant. A large part of the struggle the Indians have faced throughout the years has been commonly believed to be caused by The Curse of Rocky Colavito. Rocky Colavito is still a beloved figure in Cleveland, a lot of popularity stems from his hitting prowess, earning himself the 1959 home run champion. Frank Lane on April 17, 1960 set in motion a chain a very unfortunate events that plagued a franchise. Frank Lane betrayed the fans, who, rightly were outraged by a trade of a hero for the outsider Harvey Kuenn of the Detroit Tigers. Havrey Kuenn was the American League batting champion the same year Colavito earned the home run title, which is what made Frantic Frank’s trade so interesting and upsetting to
