This class has taught me to use my professional values before my own because each individual has their own values that may contradict their clients. If a social worker contradicts their client’s values then the client may become offended, which could cause you to lose their business. Every social worker is supposed to have an unbiased opinion towards every situation acknowledged by their client. Social workers professional values sometimes differ from their personal values: justice for their clients, human companionship, and dignity to the client. According to the NASW (National Association of Social Workers) Code of Ethics, “Social workers mission statement is planted by the core values: service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence.”…
