In 1956, one of the officers who drove out their idle King, Farouk, and took over the government, Gamal Abdel Nasser, became Egypt's President. Nasser performed great contributions to the growing power of Egypt. Regarding a duty of Egypt as a leading Arab country, Nasser was trying to help the Palestinian refugees to fight for their rights to return. So he provided Palestinian armed groups with financial and military aids. By 1956, Israel was no longer capable of ignoring the tricks Nasser was playing in the region.
