Gallium Research Paper

Improved Essays
Gallium is an important soft metal that is commonly used for various circuit components, thermometers, mirrors and has also integrated into healthcare applications. This metal has recently gained interest due to its recent discoveries of its biomimetic behaviors when mixed with other metals. This sheds light on the possibility of making soft robotics that can have deformable and elastic capabilities that can be applied to untouched fields.

The problem currently faced is the inability to properly mimic certain animal-like behavior and movements in robotics. There has been a struggle to find materials that are both strong and elastic at the same time. Current approaches have been able to show deformability however, their flexibility is restricted

Aqrobacterium tumefaciens. for a long time has been doing what molecular biologists are now striving to do. It has been inserting foreign genes into plants and getting the plants to express those genes in the form of proteins. In the process the bacterium causes the plant cells to proliferate and form a gall or tumour, most commonly at or near the junction of the root and the stem. The crown gall is a neoplastic disease of plants caused by Aqrobacterium.…

Gallium is one of those elements that is used in industry every day. Gallium was discovered in Paris at the private laboratory of Paul-Emile Lecoq de Boisbaudran (1831-1912) at 3 a.m. on August, 1875. He observed a new violet line in the atomic spectrum of some zinc he had extracted from a sample of zinc blende ore (ZnS) from the Pyrenees. He knew it meant that an unknown element was present. Gallium comes from Gallia, the Latin name for France.…

From the three biomimicry technologies currently in progress of being developed, my favorite is the Gecko Gripper because of its high efficiency potential. First, it makes the problem of astronauts trying to stick items together a lot easier. Currently, they use Velcro which has many problems such as needing both sides to have Velcro in order to stick and loose fibers creating debris in space. The Gecko Gripper would be able to stick to any hard surface regardless of the material and uses Van der Waals force to create tinier material fixing the issue of the loose fibers.…

The self-operating napkin is a famous cartoon that sums up what Rube Goldberg machines are all about: creating a machine(or contraption or invention or device or apparatus) that uses a chain reaction to accomplish a very simple task in a very complicated manner. For example, the self-operating napkin accomplishes the simple task of wiping the chin through this convoluted series of events: lifting a soup spoon (A) pulls a string (B) that jerks a ladle (C) that then throws a cracker (D) past a parrot (E). When the parrot jumps for the cracker, its perch (F) tilts and drops seeds (G) into a pail (H). The extra weight in the pail pulls a cord (I) that opens and lights an automatic cigar lighter (J), which sets off a rocket (K) that causes a sickle…

Reflecting on my years as a member of the Silver Starlites I realize I would not be where I am today if it were not for the influence of my parents, teammates, Starlite parents and my four magnificent coaches, who surprisingly managed to put up with my antics for ten years. It is because of their encouragement and support that I have truly learned what it means to be disciplined, audacious, dedicated, a role model and most importantly a champion. Our competitions came around two and occasionally three times a month, this meant that if I were not home doing my school work I was sure to be in the gym practicing my butt off while my mom repeatedly nagged about how bad my free hand was or that my showmanship and eye contact was not enough, not to mention her eye rolls every time I dropped. It was excruciatingly frustrating to know that it…

The Importance of Education in Young Women in Millenium Hall Throughout the course of Millenium Hall, Sarah Scott introduces her readers to a variety of female characters, all who have experienced hardship and have learned some lesson along the way. Harriot Trentham, the last story in Scott’s novel, is no exception to this rule. The story of Mrs. Trentham fits in nicely with the rest of the tales, as a method for Scott to not only provide radical ideas, but still remains firmly rooted in its conservative past. Harriot is reminded that she has more to offer the world, her friends, and herself, than the physical appearance that has earned her so much attention in her community.…
