Gaining Perspective: My Experiences In A College

Decent Essays
Perspective is crucial in life. Without it, opportunities and possibilities are greatly limited. The honors college is not simply a place to gain perspective, but also to give perspective to others within the college through my experiences.
Since I was old enough to start formulating notes on a piano into “music,” as I would call it, I have been a student of music. On the other hand, I have also been engulfed in a love for the sciences. Moreover, sciences allow for the creation of ideas to design new ways to do things. Using the creativity that music develops in correlation with the sciences creates a sense of creativity that surpasses those who do not have these experiences. Similarly, interdisciplinary studies allow students to gain experience

The Honors College at Auburn is designed to challenge the students that have showed academic excellence in their high school careers. The college should help students think more openly about the problems in today’s world, and lets face it, they are numerous. With the help of professors, the students in the Honors college should be able to pinpoint the source of a particular problem as well as the solution. I am not saying that the students will change the world with their way of thinking, but the students will be taught perspective. This type of thinking can only be mimicked in a challenging environment with people who are pushing each other to be better.…

As a first time student attending Spokane Falls Community College, I honestly thought that the only buildings and areas of campus involving my class schedule would be of importance. Little did I know that one room I would encounter would become my safe haven. I remember the first day stepping out onto campus and all I saw was a giant riddle waiting to be solved so many parking spaces, buildings, rooms, classes, and students. The anticipation bubbling up inside of me was exciting and rooted with a little nervousness. I was searching for place to keep me focused on my goal of being a successful student, a place to refresh between rigorous lectures.…

I believe there is a more evident ambiance of respect in the Honors Program because, like the students, the professors are highly motivated. Additionally, the Honors students want to be in a more academically challenging environment and the professors want to teach these students who are hungry for knowledge. Furthermore, the smaller classroom settings are ideal for my learning process. With the smaller settings, there are less distractions and more individual attention which makes a difficult topic easier to comprehend. Also, I plan to take advantage of the Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities since I have been accepted to the College of Engineering.…

As a recent graduate from the Honors College, I have spent the past four years learning the requirements and opportunities offered from the Honors College, growing in a community full of driven people, and most importantly, testing my aptitude and fortitude in pursuance of my goals. The Honors College provided me the support and resources, while simultaneously fueling my growing interest in academia. It was with great displeasure that I viewed my next few years at the University at Buffalo apart from the Honors College, and thus it is with keen interest that I am responding to the posting from the Honors College listserv for the Graduate Assistant position. As both a PhD student in the Classics Department and an undergraduate in the Physics…

The students of Mt. Hood Community College campus are the most diverse that I’ve ever encountered. Before I moved here, I resided in Nevada, the people there tended to look more alike. It ordinarily comes as a shock when I say that Nevada isn’t diverse, but it is the truth. My hometown has a fairly new identity; it’s still finding it. A majority of my life was spent there, in addition to a handful of other places.…

As a running start student I could talk about how my experience at community college helped prepare me to transfer to a four year university, but the lessons I learned there were primarily limited to academics. Sure, I learned how to be successful in a college class room, that online classes don’t fit my learning style, and going to Hong Kong for two weeks in the middle of the quarter will significantly lower a GPA. (I eventually retook the classes from that quarter.)…

The experience that I would use to display all of these personal qualities would be my first semester at Miami University. First Year College Experience Transitioning In four years of high school, students are usually prepared with tools for the new experience of college, considering the time teachers have given up to just get them through high school with the everyday lessons and countless homework assignments, these are the students that usually tend to say they forgot to hand in or just plain didn’t do it just because. There are usually categories that represent students based on work ethic shown in class, overseen by the teacher and this is the connection that starts a four year relationship with new teachers.
