Gaining Nursing Skills

There are many different methods in which a person can acquire new skills and abilities that will help them achieve their goals. Some skills are taught while others come naturally. A successful professional manages to balance skills from all the spectrums and use them to the highest potential to achieve necessary goals. I have always been a person with a strong work ethic. Many of my supervisors have praised by ability to be a fast learner and a natural leader. With every task that is set at my feet I seem to master it quickly and always strive to find improvements. Although these natural skills are in high demand within the professional world, they alone are not enough. In 2007 my husband and I were barely surviving on low wage paying jobs. One of the most critical that I have used in multiple ways is one that I learned from one of my cultural diversity classes. Since the health care field works with the general population, any member of the staff will come across so many different types of people. A skill I learned within the class was to always take a moment to ensure that information being sent and received is processed correctly due to cultural barriers. It is impossible to help someone if the information is not received correctly. Of course a main skill that I learned was my medical terminology class. While obtaining my nursing license, I was shocked that it was not a required course. The process of being able to know how to break down the words and know the meanings of the individual pieces helps to be able to understand what is happening even in new cases. It goes without saying that being able to understand medical terms is critical in the health care
