Gainful Disclosure Requirements—A Reminder and A Preview of the Template
During the NASFAA Conference, the Department of Education (ED) reminded participants that the
June 30, 2012 U.S. District Court decision did not vacate the gainful employment (GE) program disclosure requirements in section 668.8(b) of the Student Assistance General Provisions regulations. This includes the mandatory use of the ED-developed template in providing the required disclosure information. ED is reviewing the template to ensure it complies with the court’s ruling, and expects to make it available for schools to use when updating their GE program

When entering template information, schools should note that the template will display
Department of Labor SOC codes that crosswalk to the program’s CIP code, and the school will select the SOC code(s) appropriate to what the program prepares the students to do. When the school selects the appropriate SOC code(s), the template automatically will pull in the applicable links from the O*NET occupational profiles for the output screen on the school’s website. In addition, the template also allows schools to provide additional information (in text box) about

what the program’s total tuition and fees figure may or may not include, such as additional fees for supplies. The template allows the school to display more than one placement rate should the school’s accrediting agency and/or state agency require the school to calculate an institutional or program level placement rate using state or accrediting agency methodology.
After the school enters all required information into the template, the school will be able to review the information. Then the school will hit “submit” and will receive a zip file that provides the school with everything it needs to put the template on the output screen of
