When you hear adjectives such as multimedia mogul, multi-talented, transcending, illuminating, generous, abused, self-hating, and beloved, who comes to mind? Ms. Oprah Gail Winfrey embodies all of these adjectives and much more. Oprah was born on January 29, 1954 in Kosciusko, Mississippi to single parent, Vernita Lee. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001856/bio. Many people will be surprised to know that Oprah Gail Winfrey was originally supposed to have the name, “Or-pah” from “Ruth” in the Bible; however, the spelling and pronunciation of Orpah proved too difficult for family and friends. http://www.encyclopedia.com/topic/Oprah_Winfrey.aspx. In addition, the name Gail is of Hebrew origin. The meaning of Gail is, “my father is joy, father of exaltation.” http://www.ourbabynamer.com/meaning-of-Gail.html. While Oprah’s mother sought after employment away from the home, her maternal grandmother became her primary caregiver.

However, Oprah is so wealth, she is able to bankroll her own movie creations, such as Bigger's mother in “Native Son”, Mattie in The Women of Brewster's Place, Sethe in “Beloved”, Gloria in “The Butler”, and Annie Lee in “Selma”. All of these characters have a recognizable common denominator, her mother. Does Oprah see herself in her mother? Does she imagine herself as ugly, possibly not worthy of considerable beauty due to her mother's inability to nurture
