Gaby's Life-Personal Narrative

Nearing the end of July, Victor showered me with tons of compliments that came out of nowhere. We first met through a Skype video chat with his little sister Gaby who I was acquainted with through school. Gaby and I chatted occasionally, and it was a slow summer night, so why not? When I first saw Victor, his bright smile, as broad and shiny as the Merrimack River where he lived nearby, intrigued me. I didn’t know Gaby’s brother was this cute. Sheepish, I hid behind my sister throughout the whole video chat. When the chat was over, Skype made a noise and a text bubble appeared.
“It was nice talking to you, cutie ;)).”

I kept my interactions between Victor and me a secret. My heart giddy, I blushed whenever I chatted with him over Skype, fingers flying over the keyboard, eager to amuse him and keep his attention on me. “He definitely likes me,” I say to myself, intensely concentrating on the Skype convo, anticipating his next

Thought provoking passage from this section: “Cassia Reyes, the society is pleased to present you with your match. I smile as Xander’s face appears on the portscreen immediately following the recorded message. It’s a good picture of him. As always, his smile looks bright and real, his blue eyes kind. I study his face closely, pretending that I’ve never seen this picture before; that I have only had a glimpse of him once, last night at the banquet.…

Hurriedly, I buckled my seatbelt, placed in my keys in the ignition, and adjusted my rear view mirror. It was then, I caught a glimpse of the Victorian mansion across the street. I had almost forgotten about the arrangement I had grudgingly accepted to help clean the attic. But after a quick scan of my surroundings, I quickly realized the vicinity was absent of any dump truck. So maybe they forgot, I shrugged, hoping this piece of logic would justify my actions.…

Throughout “The Great Gatsby”, published by award-winning author F. Scott Fitzgerald in 1925, multiple characters are shown to undergo major changes in their personalities or the way they are portrayed. Be it the concept of Daisy as a pure, angelic being at the beginning quickly morphing into one of her as a superficial person, or the perception of Gatsby as a rich, enigmatic man contorting into one of him as a naïve and blind protagonist, each character’s development affects the book’s plot and works for character development. At the forefront of this development is the narrator himself, Nick Carraway, as he changes radically to understand the world around him. Take, for example, the way that Nick’s naïveté in the introduction is overtaken, resulting in him becoming…
