Gabriel Faure's Fantasie

As a person, I am unique. I am girly, and fun, geeky, quiet, obnoxious, sarcastic, caring, musical, and most importantly; myself. Carly Jones. I am always true to myself, no matter the situation.

First of all, my music is the most important thing to me. I used the opening of Gabriel Faure’s Fantasie, as the backdrop to my poster because that song is always playing in my head. And, I’m always playing it, it’s a beautiful piece, and shows every aspect of wonderful musicianship, and why I love music so much. Music is a huge part of my life, it’s able to express anything without the use of a single word, and that in itself is extraordinary. Therefore, I have to be a part of it, so I learned to play. I’ve played the flute for seven years now, and the harp for three. Music, is a beautiful language, and the one I speak most fluently.

Both of us had never been in a position of authority before, so that made us a little chaotic. Also, we had never spoken before last year, and we had to start because we became drum majors together. Carl is now my best friend, because she is my kind of idiot. Literally, we are always goofing off and being stupid together, even in roles of huge responsibility, which is why I put a picture of me in uniform on said poster. Aside from being the goofy one at band, it also brings me out of my shell. The role of drum major has made me a more loud and confident person. And without Carl, I probably wouldn’t be as strong of a person as I am

Hello Mr. Gershenson, I am the composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, and I will be telling you about my early life and education, early success and failures, and most famous pieces and achievements before my life ended in 1983 at age 53. Cholera is said to be the reason I passed away as well as the reason that my mom sadly passed away when I was 14 while attending boarding school in St. Petersburg. Throughout my life I have always regret the past, hoped in the future, and have been unsatisfied with the present. I was born on May 7, 1840, and I started taking piano lessons when I was 5. Music wasn’t an option in Russian schools at the time, so my parents and I never thought that I would pursue a career in music.…

I remember the first time that I picked up a violin. The sounds that came out probably couldn't qualify as notes, much less music. That was in third grade, and I was almost totally unaccustomed to being challenged. Confused at the thought of failure, I told myself that if I practiced for a few weeks, then I would sound amazing, but even after weeks of practicing I still sounded like a dying squirrel. That was the first thing I’d tried that I wasn't sure if I could succeed at.…

Music has been a part of my life since I was in the sixth grade, starting from when I joined my intermediate school’s band where I played the trumpet. During high school, I left band yet still continued practicing the trumpet but I also wanted to use my free-time to learn a new instrument and so, during senior year, I decided to learn the violin. I have always loved the timbre of the instrument but since my high school did not have an orchestra, I had to learn to play through self-learning and private-lessons. I was excited to learn the violin; however, my progress was slow. Though my musical background gave me the foundation needed to read sheet music and learn notes quickly, as an adult learner it was difficult for my muscles to adjust to the fine and specific actions required of the violin.…

As a music education major at the University of Minnesota, it is easy to oversimply my life by saying that music is my passion Its cliché, and it is what nearly every music major says when they enter the school music. I first found a love for music in my elementary school general music classes. I remember listening to various composers and wanting to learn how to play every single instrument that I heard. I begged my mom to let me take piano lessons, and in the third grade, I started lessons with my first of three teachers.…

Other than sleeping, have you ever found yourself completely silent, both physically and verbally? Well, it happened to me on a summer day back in 2014, crammed into the backseat of a Fiat northeast of Prague. Since I couldn’t communicate with the passengers and had just left a life-changing 10-days in Tuscany, I allowed myself to reflect on my life in greater detail. During this ninety minute, fast-paced ride, I concluded my life is an ironic journey, shaped positively by polar opposites.…
