GPA Course Reflection

Before this class began I expected this class to show me the ins and outs of being a successful college student. My assumptions were very valid, because every assignment we have worked on has had something to do with being a successful college student. Before taking this course I was not knowledgeable about many resources I have at Cedar Valley. In this course I had to figure out things by myself and take responsibility as a college student. I had to stay on top of my assignments because nobody else would be checking for me. After completing this class I know that I will have a lot to take with me as I continue my college career. Before starting the collegiate magnet program I was very afraid of failing and ruining my college GPA before …show more content…
EDUC has also contributed to my understanding of others by showing me how important it is to see the viewpoints of everyone and think before you speak or act. Many times situations can be solved by simply examining the situation. My understanding of my quality world now is clear, I know now that my quality world is bliss. In my quality world I know that I do not want any unnecessary conflict. I wish for happiness and peace in my world. However now that I know what I consider to be my quality world I know that in order for me to feel at peace I have to make my own world. Life is what you make it, so make it right. I have always assumed responsibility for my learning because of my parents. Growing up my father and mother have always told me “if you do not do anything in life please get an education.” With that being said I have realized many times that people in the world do not want me, an african american woman to have an education so therefore I took it. Nobody else cares what education I do or do not take advantage of but me. I mean it is my brain, so of course I am the only person that is responsible for what goes in and comes out. I take advantage of each learning opportunity I am granted. I know if I do not finish an assignment it is not anyone's fault but

At the beginning of the semester I was somewhat intimated by the amount of course work that was expected of each student in this class. However, as time went on and I started to complete the assignments, it became clear how useful many of them were, particularly the resume and the career exploration paper. Both of these assignments were beneficial in their own way, despite the time and effort that went in to completing them according to the instructions. The resume and subsequent critiques from multiple sources yielded a professional document that is flawless and ready to be disseminated to potential employers after a minor customization to it based upon the job description and requirements. The career exploration assignment has taught me how…

When we are young and commit mistakes, it is easy to blame on parents, teachers, or siblings in order to mentally make ourselves feel better about our own fault. In college, I will not be able to blame anybody for missing registration to classes, or missing an important deadline. Taking full responsibility for my actions will give me a hard time in my college career, since I have never been completely by myself. However, without a doubt, acting responsibly is the quality that gives meaning to our lives and allows us to develop personality, establish profound relationships, and get an advantage in the labor market. Additionally, the only way to overcome the fear of taking responsibility of myself is to start realizing that things will change…

Not everyone who attends college are successful at completing the courses needed to graduate. For many reasons, college students are forced to drop out willingly, are withdrawn by administration, or simply lose interest in furthering their education. However, the college students who complete college successfully and make it to graduation share some habits that make the odds of being successful work in their favor. Many college students succeed because they make it a priority to attend and involve themselves in class sessions regularly, take control of their education, and nurture relationships with the instructors on their school campus. One of the most important causes of being a successful college student is actually attending class sessions regularly.…

Education has always played a significant part in shaping who I am and what I believe. It all started with my parents who left their careers, loved ones, and the country they called home solely because they believed in the power of education. They envisioned a better life for my brother and me and the way to obtain it was through education in America because to them, this served as the key to success. If we worked hard in school, went to a good college, then, we would be successful and have achieved the “American Dream”. As a student, the expectations of my parents weighed heavily on my shoulders and ironically, the mounting pressure conditioned me to dislike school.…

Throughout this class I have learned many things, but perhaps the most important is the steps to writing an essay, and the planning options.…

In my life education has been one of the most important thing. Although I was not always the best student I made it a point to be in the class, paying attention as much as possible. That was not the case in many of the classes I was in though. I had trouble from a young age with certain subjects and because of that when I got to high school I was put into classes with people who were at the same level. The problem with that was that the majority of the students in those classes were as Adrienne Rich would say in her article Claiming an Education, simply receiving an education not claiming one (608).…
