Negative Effects of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO)
The GMOs (Genetically modified organisms) are defined by WHO (World Health Organization) as the organisms which are altered genetically (DNA) in a manner that does not happen naturally, and that is done to confer to the desirable features. Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are formed by transferring a gene from one species to another, establishing something that does not happen naturally. A big portion of domestic crops contain DNA that has been tweaked in labs, such as soybeans. It is also impossible to identify food items that contain such genetically modified ingredients. GMOs have been proved for the body, for the community, for farmers and even for the environment (Hancock, 2014).

There is the worry that putting the exotic gene into plants can make them generate toxins at greater levels, and that can be risky to humans. Usually that can occur during the progress of putting the gene inside the plant. If other genes are damaged during the insertion progress, it may cause the plant to change its generation of toxins (Hancock, 2014). The new gene can tamper with the metabolic system making the plant to be stressed therefore producing more toxins in reaction. Even though such effects may not have viewed in GM plants before, they have been discovered through conventional breeding devices creating a safety concerning GM plants. For instance, the Journal Nature put to light that a big number of scientists put down ridicule study by other legal scientists in a one-sided, mindless and emotional manner that are not helping to boost technology. The efforts by the media to expose similar challenges are usually censored. GMOs crops and their related herbicides are hazardous to insects, birds, soil organisms, marine ecosystems and amphibians. They pollute water resources and the general wildlife environment. For instance, GM crops are getting rid of habitats for monarch butterflies whose population has reduced by 50% within the United States (Fletcher, 292). Roundup herbicides are shown to create birth defects to amphibians, endocrine disruptions and embryonic deaths and organ destruction to animals even when there are low doses. Another example is that of the GM canola that is found to be growing wild in California and North Dakota, can transverse its herbicide tolerant genes into weeds. Genetically modified organisms do not add to yields and rather cause negative consequences towards feeding hungry people. While sustainable non-GMO agricultural methods used in developing countries have conclusively resulted in yield increases of 79% and higher, GMOs do not, on average, increase yields at all.
