Not only does this class teach students how to navigate through GTCC’s many websites it also helps students plan out there future at GTCC and beyond. If I had had this class my first semester I would have had a better understanding of the classes I needed and I probably would have graduated last spring. Another aspect of the course is explaining the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (CAA) and how it works and applies to the individual, which is quite important when you go to transfer. This class helps you understand the college system in a lot more detail and explains and helps the students navigate through it allowing for a more seamless…
In the last five years, I have worked as a CNA, an LVN at a nursing home and clinic, and an RN in the CVICU. All of these experiences have greatly contributed to my solid nursing foundation. As a CNA, I enjoyed the direct interaction and knowing my patients on a personal level. As an LVN, I handled up to 35 patients while supervising the CNAs. I also performed wound care for up to 100 patients when I worked as a Wound Care Nurse.…

RC1 Reaction Comment Lorrie Thomas, The first day of class was so informative and I experienced emotions from surprise, interest, fear, humor, sadness, etc., as explained in this reaction comment. One point of discussion, which surprised me, was how much I was unaware of the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) mission. I have said for the past 2 years that I would like to work for DHS.…
This course has taught me how to be more self-aware about what type of counselor I want to be and focus more on my values and accomplish what is important for me. This course also taught me how to be more flexible. Having a full-time job working 40 or more hours a week plus school; it was hard and still is, but having flexibility when I become a Mental Health Counselor will help me because I must be flexible to meet the client needs so we can establish a client/counselor relationship and maintain that relationship. Through this course, I learned about my professional identity, how to bring my personal values into Mental Health Counseling without losing myself, yet help the client without pushing my values on that person.…
If I could take only one concept I learned from this class to apply to my well-being would be mindfulness. At the beginning and the end of class, when we got to lie down and focus on our breathing, I tended to start thinking about the things that I need to do after class. Throughout the semester, I have gotten better at pushing away my worries and focusing on the present moment. That helps me to relax better and become more aware of my body and the environment. 2.)…
Sandra, I could think of one area in which to me the 5Cs did not do a good enough job for improved patient outcomes and that would be in the area of patient identification because it relies on verbal affirmation of name (Institute for Safe Medical Practices, 2011). I work at the VA and for whatever reason I have and can have three John Richardsons in one night to care for of my six patients all clustered in the same area (some may be spelled slightly different)! Or all my patients or in for the same condition. I have had to stop many doctors from going into the wrong room to consult on a patient when they have just scribbled the name of the patient on a piece of paper. Sometimes I do not catch them in time and they walk out asking why certain…
This class taught me how to be confident in my abilities and how to keep a positive attitude when things seem rough. At the beginning of the semester I started off well, but as things progressed that soon changed. About five weeks into the semester I missed school for three days because…
I am very excited for the course and learning everything that comes along with it. I am planning on working in the healthcare field, so I am mainly looking forward to learning how to write more coherently and effectively. Once, I have a better understanding of those skills, they will benefit me in the long run. For example, I am going to be responsible to provide the correct information to the doctors I will be working with. They need to be informed on their patients and their situations and of course, these things have to be done without error.…
As a binge watcher of numerous crime dramas, I often ask myself and siblings ‘what if an individual or a group was the recreate any of the heinous crimes so heavily illustrated in these series?’ I'd discuss with my siblings the repercussions on the human psyche. After watching criminal series such as Criminal Minds I find myself fearing the outside world and even the inside my home. And I am not the only one. These series show constant illustrations of individuals and even families murdered, raped, tortured, and the disturbed perpetrators mind as they perform the acts.…
Last year I became Vice President of Student Organization of Latinos (S.O.L). Before S.O.L the only club I had been a part of was Heath Occupation Students of America (H.O.S.A) a Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO). Becoming Vice President of S.O.L was something novel to me, I had no experience being a co-leader of any club but I wanted to try something new and was willing to give it my all. I knew it was going to be a challenge because S.O.L was only being established at our school and it was the club’s first year.…
When I came to the PGC 11 years ago in pre-school, I had no idea what great friends I would make the fun memories with them. The many years at the PGC were fun and unforgettable. Like when we used to play all day long and had snack time. When we made a little village out of milk cartons and all the fun field trips we went on. But the main thing I enjoyed was our buddies at the UGC.…
Throughout the course, I learned different aspects of project management, and skills that can be used in the everyday life as long as involve interacting with other people. In this class I learned about how to be a better team member. This semester I was reminded of how important communication is and how people need to keep emphasizing it as one of the most important skills any person could possesses. The personality test was useful, I think it gave all of us a good way to start to see how everyone is different. It made it easier for each of us to better understand one another in how our unique personalities can be a challenge when working with others.…
After being in this class this semester it has taught me so much about college and answered so many questions I didn 't know. I 'm very thankful to have taken this class which took a lot of stress off my first semester. My goals for the spring semester are to not get into the same habbits of waking up late as I did the first…
Before I began my Freshman Development Seminar course with Professor Furet, I believed that this class would not be of good use to me. The reason for this was because of my beliefs in self-teaching myself to learn the basics with additional help from other sources. However, it did not turn out the way I wanted it to be. Therefore, I had to pay to get taught what I could have done on my own, at least that is what I convinced myself then and there. Throughout my class sessions with Ms. Furet, I learned more than I could have ever imagined.…
