The Dalai Lama explains, “as we being to extend our compassion towards all others, is to maintain the same level of intimacy as we feel towards those closer to us” (Dalai Lama). He exclaims that we must feel compassion towards everyone equally. As the semester winds down and the late nights and long days seem to blend into a total chaos, it is imperative to consider that college students experience the detrimental effects of society's pressure more than most. A great GPA, internship, and participating in an organization are becoming necessary to be relevant enough to even compete for positions after we walk across the stage with our degree. Add a part time job into the mix and the chances of our success become slim. Examining these factors brings into question how this stringent schedule and unrealistic expectations affect the mental health of college students. Stories of mental breakdowns, sleepless nights, and forgetting to eat are depicted as “normal” and widely accepted, in fact are cheered on by fellow students because that is what it takes to succeed.…

The first reading of this course was very interesting for me to read! The most important concept or item I got from the reading was how many components of our health their our and how important it is to take care of all of them. Before further reading about all six, I thought that physical wellness and mental wellness were the only two components of health/wellness, but the chapter clarified the differences between, for example, mental and spiritual wellness, and then all of the components seemed equally important. The second most important thing I read (or viewed) was the table of leading deaths in women in the USA and around the world.…
