I do however understand that there are times when I need to be stern and put my foot down. I had to tell patients that were on certain diets that couldn’t have salt or sugar because of the meal plan they were on. It was a bummer specially when they would get upset or hurt but I understood that I wasn’t doing it to be mean I was doing it because it was for their well-being. Another quality that I have is being personable. I feel this is important because it makes it easier for the patient to open up and talk about any issues or concerns that they may have about their care as well as health. It even helps get them to ask questions. I’ve had instances were a patient will ask me a question that they were too afraid to ask the nurse about. Sometimes patients can feel intimated by nurses and doctors which makes them timid so when someone is easily approachable it helps the patient be comfortable and not afraid to address an issue that they may have. I also have great communication skills which is vital in the nursing profession because nurses are the link between the patient and the doctor. I've learned while volunteering how important communication is because taking care of a patient is a group
