Future Legislation
Our nation has suffered too much at the hands of dangerous people who use guns to commit acts of violence. I’m not one to think that we can stop every violent act, but if there is anything that we can be done to prevent any of these events we must try, but within reason. Most gun owners are responsible and law-abiding, and they use their guns safely. While no law or set of laws will end gun violence, it is clear that the American people want action, but that action can’t be to arm the masses.
When considering the new gun legislation, the following are urged to consider the following factors:

Representative Gabrielle Giffords and her eighteen constituents others were shot during a constituent meeting held in a supermarket parking lot in Casas Adobes, Arizona, in the Tucson metropolitan area. Six people died, including federal District Court Chief Judge John Roll; Gabe Zimmerman, one of Rep. Giffords' staffers; and a nine-year-old girl, Christina-Taylor Green. Giffords was holding the meeting, called "Congress on Your Corner" in Tucson grocery store parking lot when Jared Lee Loughner drew a pistol and shot her in the head before proceeding to fire on other people. One additional person was injured in the immediate aftermath of the shooting by the time the last shot rang out on January 8, 2011, six lay dead or dying and thirteen more were injured. Rep. Giffords, the gunman's target, was shot in the head. She survived, but faced a long and difficult journey to recovery.
