o Elevate mood and develop healthy cognitive patterns and beliefs about self and the world that leads to alleviation of Leydi’s sense of impending doom. o Find out more about minor’s resources and strengths to access these abilities and help the minor to put them to use. o Counselor would use a scale from 1 to 10 in each session to anchor problems, measure progress and to obtain a rating from the client on where they perceive they are on the scale that day o Use Solution Focused Therapy to focus therapy on solution-building rather than problem-solving. …
I would also be very careful to make it clear that this process is a team-oriented approach and little authority within the dynamics. This would ensure that the client was offered the best updated information available and the client could then examine the information I would provide. I would also need to mindful of any stakeholders that the intervention has which may create a bias. I would need to evaluate the outcomes of this intervention and apply…
Solution focused therapy has a lot of advantages when it comes to dealing with clients who are in the stage of change when they are open to change. I think that the stage of change is often overlooked in solution focused therapy due to the fact that therapist don’t care much for the past and look to bettering the future. But the past tells us where we are currently at and if we believe that we need to change. If therapists do not address the stage of change clients are in I believe that they will not achieve long-term success. Reflect on your learning experience related to this theory.…
Furthermore, it is also important to understand that what works for one client may not work for the other. Hence, adjusting your therapeutic methods to meet your clients’ needs is important as well. Working together with your clients and meeting their needs will help your clients feel as if they are being…
This theory enables clients to separate thought from emotion; teaching clients they have choice what to feel. This helps the client understand they need not be a victim of their emotions. CBT does this by teaching the client to be aware of thoughts. In this way, the client is given the choice whether to allow their inaccurate thoughts and beliefs to impact them negatively. In helping clients develop awareness of their internal process the client is provided choice, empowering them to make…
Based on the readings, I have learned that there are methods I can utilize in my current practice. The first that would be used is SFBT. Solution focused brief therapy would be extremely beneficial for my client whom I am having difficulties with during our sessions together. Therefore, practice would ensure that everyone whom he encounters within the school setting can come together to know what goals my client has and having him continually working towards them throughout the week. I wouldn't want him to only work on them while I am there, but to ensure it happens daily.…
His thought is to train these individuals to become Positive Psychologists who will focus on clients who are experiencing unhappiness and lack of achievement in their lives. This is typically found in people who have disorders such as depression. It is the job of a Positive Psychologist to teach their…
Introduction Ian is an eighteen year old male, referred by the Juvenile Justice system for therapeutic counseling due to his conviction as a sexual offender. As a social worker reading Ian case file, Ian’s case history starts after his mother’s death when he was five-years old. Ian’s sister and her husband moved into the family home to assist Ian’s father with his care. While in the home, Ian’s brother-n-law murdered his 18-month old daughter, Ian’s niece. Ian mistakenly confessed to the crime because he hit his niece earlier with a toy.…
Solution-Focused therapy has turned into a prevalent and understood treatment framework as of late. This methodology looks for arrangements, instead of concentrating on hidden issues. Treatment is generally concise, in spite of the fact that advance is measured by results, not by number of sessions. Solution-centered specialists accept that individuals' objections include conduct that originates from their perspective of the world. These practices are kept up when individuals accomplish business as usual in the conviction that there is stand out right and sensible thing to do.…
Brief intervention is a term used to describe primary care settings, accident and emergency, antenatal care, probation services, prisons and police stations. These interventions which are usually done by health workers, social workers, ambulance crew, physicians can take place within the context of a typical consultation session following assessment or screening. They tend to be brief raising the subject for the minimal time possible with less that 4 sessions. Miller and Sanchez (1993) enumerated six elements commonly included in brief interventions that have been shown to be effective. The format used for an effective brief intervention typically involves certain elements which are conveyed by the FRAMES mode.…
My philosophy of change is based mainly on the cognitive approach, but also draws from the psychoanalytical approach. By merging these two together, there is an importance placed on past experiences and how they shape behaviours, feelings and cognitions of the individual in the present. Once this is understood, the therapist can help the individual learn to problem solve, as well as develop new ways of coping with stressful events. My view of human nature is that we are largely influenced by our thoughts, which can be helpful or can cause problems.…
Throughout the counseling sessions, the client will…
Another goal is to encourage the client (s) to examine their preferred answers to their problems that they are going through. Since, clients possess strengths; the goal of this therapy is to use those strengths to solve their problem. (Gehart, 2014). The goal of Narrative Therapy is to use the client’s language to find out what is going well in the client’s lives to enable the client to anticipate a positive change in their life (Gehart, 2014).…
This time gave me an opportunity to undertake reflective listening through active listening which according to Rogers (1975) in his “client-centered” therapy argues that it encourages the client to share the information in more depth than if I was only asking directive questions. This enabled me to gain information when the client brought out the underlying issues including those that I had not thought about. The active listening also improved my relationship with the client since I was able to express acceptance by avoiding any expression of disagreement or judgement thus making him open up and also trust me as his couselor. This method also left me with enough time to explore and diagnose the issue thus noting the new ways of approach to the…
This approach is interesting because it addresses the resiliency of the client and the client can build upon a strength-based foundation to work towards solutions (George, 2008). I feel that this approach can be applied in many different situations to build on the strengths and past successes than to correct the past failures or mistakes. Secondly, in this approach the therapist understands, accepts, and uses the client’s unique worldviews during the process of identifying and amplifying exceptions (George, 2008). Lastly, this approach uses the imagination of client to visualize the future through questioning that can allow for a clear picture of what the solution may look like even when the problem may not be clearly defined. I find one of my strengths through the use of the peer evaluation form shows that I have good techniques to ask the right questions to gain a better understanding of the problem the client is presenting.…
