As a future English teacher, I have thought a lot of what is the best way for me to teach English to students who do not have it as their mother tongue. ESL students need examples and clear directions. It can be difficult to determine how much help is too much. I want to ensure that students are learning, but I want to make sure that they also understand what is expected of them. As teachers work with ESL they may notice that some students need more help than others. Teachers should be mindful of how much help they give ESL students because sometimes they may be doing the work for them.…

Communication allows students to explain to others how they problem-solve, as well as, it allows the teacher to assess how the student is performing in the classroom. The chapter touched on key components to ensure success. For example, the chapter stated, “Teachers need to allow and promote students’ autonomy,” (Heibert, 2011). I have found the students feedbacks very valuable as I can know directly want students think and want for the lessons, which can be hard for me or other teachers to know. According to Hattie and Timperley (2007), the most important aspect of an effective feedback is the clear directions on what to be next for improvement. I have found that very true with the feedback I received, and I want to make sure that I always include suggestions on possible ways to improve or questions on how to do the tasks in a different ways when giving students…

The goal of the study was clear; it wanted to mold those students into individuals who were able to fully communicate. Even though not everyone would agree with the rules Frances made in her class, the value of the idea still holds true. By hearing the way that students communicate, a teacher can better help them equip them with the skills to communicate. In a way, by hearing a student communicate and noticing struggles that they have as well as helping them realize their struggles by producing a set of rules for successful discourse, the teacher is bearing the load of the student. Together the student and teacher work together to fix what they heard.…

Students must be allowed to follow their own path to discovery. Sometimes it can be acceptable for teachers to adapt lessons if students show a particular interest in a topic, or if they struggle to grasp a concept right away. Flexibility and adaptability are very important to a certain extent, but it is also important to maintain some sort of stability in the classroom as well so that a progressive pace remains. Again, it is important that all involved in the process of learning are involved and…
