Future Career Research Paper

Going into college, I always felt that becoming a communications major would be a right fit for my future career. Having a communications major opens up a wide variety of job opportunities in many different fields which some that do not even involve communication. Although this major gives me a lot of options, the future career I wish to pursue is to become a journalist. Other titles for this job are called reporters, newswomen/newsman, and columnist. Journalists work in many different settings depending on what they are reporting on and present their information as news to the audiences of newspapers, magazines, radio, television stations, or the internet. The experiential requirements for this position is to be working in a related field like a newspaper, a report website, or freelanced submitted reports to media organizations. The type of knowledge needed to possess in order to be successful as a journalist is to have Core values of Journalism, Ethics, Media law, Basic knowledge of the institutions of civic life, Learning how to freelance, reaching out to valuable resources, and to work for non-traditional organizations. The things one needs to be passionate about in order to be successful in this position is what he/she is telling to the public; exposing truths to society are the main goals for a journalist. The personal characteristic needed in this position is knowing how to write with advanced grammar, how to write standard news story, having strong narrative writing ability, developing a online voice on a blog, knowing how to write ones own script for video/podcast, how to report and cover stories, interviewing/developing sources, talking to people, Basic video shooting and editing, Basic principles of Web design, basic principles of shooting photos and having the ability to put together a slideshow, how to record audio and produce a podcast, and Writing
