Ever since I was a little girl, I have had the desire to help others. Many people have the same desire in their life, but for me it’s very different. I strive to make a lasting impact on others rather than simply providing them a helping hand. I love feeling with others instead of just for them, and I enjoy turning the situation around and providing them with a smile or two. Seeing people struggle is very hard for me because I am incredibly empathetic. Empathy is one of the main characteristics that defines who I am. It is a characteristic that I want to utilize daily in my future career, which is why my main career aspiration is to become a nurse. I hope to begin my career as a labor and delivery nurse upon graduating from Clarkson in 2019 with my BSN. While working as a full-time nurse in labor and delivery, I plan to further my education by obtaining a master’s degree. Going to school while working full-time may prove to be difficult, however, I want to push myself to further my career. Being in labor is a stressful time for mothers, and everyone has their own specific wishes for their birth experience. I plan to support all wishes that I can of laboring mothers, as well as coach them through the process with positivity. It is important to make the experience memorable in the best way possible for these patients. Unfortunately, labor and birth doesn’t always turn out as planned. Even if there are complications during the process, I want to impact my patients the same by creating a memorable experience. I will strive to fully support the families that experience heartbreak during their labor and delivery by being a shoulder to cry on and much more.
