Not only practice the counseling’s skills, but it gave me a real experience. Rapport; is something that I learned is crucial in therapeutic relationship, it’s basically your foundation for a successful session. If your client does not feel comfortable, judge free, or important, then you will not achieve your set goals for them. During your session you have to fully committed to your client, have open ears and really listen to what they are telling you. When we first started our groups I was usually was just the observer, but I noticed that I would just kind of loose focus and not pay attention, even though I wasn’t the counselor, I noticed one time that the client would stop and loos her train of thought just because I wasn’t paying attention. It was such a little detail that really made a huge difference. In our group when we would begin a session we would find it so hard to pick a topic to talk about when we were put in the client position, but when we all discussed why it was so hard in the beginning is because we didn’t really know each other and we weren’t comfortable opening up. So after a couple sessions we found it easier to talk to each other because we all grew a close relationship, built rapport. We talked about our lives outside of school and when our next class session would come before we would start our activity we would talk amongst ourselves about anything interesting news that has happened to us.
