Author Firoozeh Dumas and Mawi Asgedom, both tells their stories from moving to their country to America. In Funny in Farsi, Dumas tells her story in a entertaining way. She moved here with her family. In Of Beetles and Angels, Asgedom talks about his education and family, which is informative. He graduated from Harvard. They both have different purposes but they both talk about the journey, they experience when they came to America.
In Funny in Farsi, Dumas wanted to entertain the reader by sharing her stories about moving to America. In the story, Dumas uses humor, sarcasm, and figurative language, such as, similes and hyperbole. “We would say ‘You’ve heard of India, Japan, or China? We’re on the same continent,’” (149). The quotes tells us that the author use capital letter because he tried to show the volume his dad’s voice had.
