In the book funny boy, throughout the conflicts between the Tamils and the Sinhalese, Arjie does not seem to know what is going on. This was set to be in the time of the conflicts where both are going against each other. “When this is all over, will start to make plans for Canada” (Selvadurai, 304). This is the moment that Arjies father realizes that he needs to migrate to Canada as the conflicts seem to get worse. This shows that Arjies family is slowly running out of time identical to an hourglass.
