As a student who struggles with English greatly I have seen self-improvements dramatically. My reading speed has increased in just one quarter of participating in the program RAMP. I have been able to learn new words and clarify the definition and understanding of words that I have learned in the previous years. Not only has RAMP help me with my reading levels and grammar understanding, but also in my speech. Gaining knowledge on vocabulary has helped me speak more comfortably and understanding the meaning of sentence by just listening to them. As a student who migrated from Mexico and only spoke Spanish in my house, it has always been difficult to understand the translation between English and Spanish. Due to this I was placed in a three stretch remedial English program at the University of Cal Poly Pomona. This affects my career goals because without passing remedial English I will not be able to complete courses that will allow me to continue on my path to achieve my goal as a Civil Engineer in the Environmental option. RAMP tutoring has changed that with large improvements in my English class I have seen changes in my writing. I have boosted my writing abilities and raised my grade in my English class to an above average grade. One of the workshops held by Ramp that I found most inspiring this quarter was the Professional Spotlight. After listening to the guest speaker I felt that I had to expand my horizon and think of ways that my degree can impact others not only myself and my future. I learned that no matter what your background is or the difficulties you are having, you can always impact the lives of those around you with the simplest thing someone does. As a first generation I got the will to push even harder to earn my degree with the best efforts and to not let myself go down because I have the opportunity that not everyone has. Even though the obstacles are hard and difficult that I can achieve and get passed them. The RAMP Counselor was the first to ask me how school was going economically, schedule, activities, and even academics. This helped me feel more welcome because the counselor actually wanted to get to know me and find what interest I had in. I found the most impact I had was when I received an email with internship opportunities and a program that call poly Pomona has with companies so students can get experience in the field of interest. I found this most helpful because it showed me that RAMP actually cares about the futures of the students and wants all the students to succeed in life. This showed me that there are
