Functionalist View On Police Shootings

There are many riots and complaints about police officers shooting people. Whether they had the rights to kill or not, there are huge riots happening. There is a lot of frustration and horrific scenes happening. If a police officer asks you to put your hands up or step away from the vehicle, then listen to him/her and you will simply not get shot. People would rather test what the cops would really do by not listening and pulling out a gun or a knife and threatening the police officer. These riots that citizens form turn into burning cities. Burning a city doesn’t do any good for the community. It creates more debt and forms even more hardships. It costs millions of dollars to rebuild a town. Not only that, but who’s going to want to build their company in a town where people became angry and ruined every single building? That just means there’s a chance of it happening again. This whole disaster of police shoots and citizen riots are all have something to do with the three perspective theories. The first one would be conflict perspective. These people are struggling because of two reasons. They either can’t take the fact that the shooter wasn’t the police officer or that it wasn’t the pedestrian. The functionalist perspective has to do with shootings between police and pedestrians because neither of them are being punished. Yes, a police officer may have to take time off of work or the pedestrian can get a short amount of jail time but they both still get their ways. The police officer can still get paid with work release and the pedestrian, well the whole town ends up becoming an up roar and creates riots to where they destroy their town.
