Functionalist Observation Paper

Before discussing about how these theories explain my observations that I have gathered and analyzed, I would like to address the theories individually to allow better understanding. The observations that I have gathered were in an Batak-Indonesian based community, allowing one to assume that all families and friends I take part with are of full Indonesian descent. Thus meaning that Batak-Indonesian culture and my Seventh-Day Adventist religion play a major impact on my society.

To begin, the functionalist perspective mainly focuses on the maximization of production rates as fast and as efficiently as possible in order to thrive as a whole. Everyone threw away religion and worked their hardest from noon till midnight, some sleeping on their work and some exploding with anger from their mistakes. These acts represent the plane in the motion to fly, or the takeoff. It is very rough and most likely end up as a revolution in large scale movements. But nevertheless, with everybody focused on getting each others jobs done together, they will reach their deadline,

At the end of the metaphor, being the plane at stable flight, represents a constant movement, which means the hard work has been done. The community as a whole has finished all their work and are able to bear the fruits of their labor. At the end of our construction term, we were able to marvel at our work. The church, being proud of our hard work and not knowing that we broke the sabbath, gave us enough money to buy each of us a burger from a fast food chain of our choice. In brief, the functionalist perspective would explain the actions of my community through ideas given from the modernization
